2014-02-12 at 21-01-56 New York Fashion Week/Oscar Recap

Happy Monday. Hope you had a lovely Oscar night-in as I did yesterday, and that all your favourite stars took home prizes…if you care about that sort of thing. Or, as in my case, you enjoyed the red carpet portion and were pleased with the stylists’ choice at the climax of this award season. It was ok, meh, but I say that every time. I don’t know about you, but If I were to attend the oscars, i would you know, try to look like a movie star, i don’t know why every year so many actual screen sirens don”t get the memo. I tune in every year knowing i’m setting myself up for disappointment expecting the met ball, but then there are always the lights that shine amidst this darkness. This year for me it was Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace (seriously what is in her water), Jennifer Garner in Oscar De La Renta (FRINGE!), and surprisingly enough Jessica Biel in Chanel Couture, (mostly because if you are going to wear anything at the Oscars, it should be Chanel Couture) though I preferred the fit of the dress on the runway. The only reason Ms Charlize Theron didn’t make my top three is well…because she’s Charlize Theron and looking that good IN ANYTHING and everything has no merit (same rule applies to Angelina Jolie), besides I like last year’s Dior better. There were other great moments from Margot Robbie, Portia De Rossi, and little Miss Lupita Nyong’o in Prada…At first I didn’t understand it, “why didn’t you save the Ralph Lauren cape for this!” is all I could angrily muster, as well as, “The fuck is up with the head band and the prom dress!”…and then I got it. Cinderella, a pretty good modernized interpretation might I add, and of course, how could I not adore it after that. Besides, mama loves herself some baby blue — speaking of- check out this last look from our final night in New York for Fashion Week! 2014-02-12 at 21-05-16 2014-02-12 at 21-10-05 2014-02-12 at 21-05-31 2014-02-12 at 20-58-36 2014-02-12 at 21-00-13 2014-02-20 at 09-43-52 2014-02-12 at 21-04-50 2014-02-12 at 21-00-32 2014-02-12 at 20-59-42 2014-02-12 at 21-09-45 2014-02-12 at 21-06-15 Why have sleeves in the first place? #fashioneditorsmademedoit

Marchesa Fall 2014

2014-02-12 at 17-34-23 New York Fashion Week

A little over a week ago I had the chance of attending my favourite designers’ Fall 2014 show at the New York Public Library. There is something unattainable and life-changing about the notion of sitting front row at any form of performance, so to do so at NYFW to view my most adored couple of designers new garments live before my eyes, and sharing that moment with Anna Wintour was a surreal experience. The collection was breathtaking. There is a reason Marchesa has always resonated with my personal aesthetic, even though evening wear is not part of my every day ensembles. There is something  whimsical, and opulent about each gown and garment that feels otherworldly. Season after season their concentration on the most luscious and dreamlike fabrics and materials from tulle, to fringe, to lace, to illusion panelling, always feels so cleverly designed and beautifully executed, it becomes obvious why no other evening wear designers can rival their red carpet aesthetic. I have always stated that if I were to dip my foot in the design pool these are the kinds of garments I would dream of making. Many shows use production for theatrics, with dripping chocolate walls, and Kardashian nipples,  but with a presentation like Marchesa the drama clearly originates from the “oh so” intricate work put into each and every piece. This season Georgina and Keren took us to the Scottish Highlands, with their take on tartan (metallic dip-dyed lace) and even deconstructed kilts (burnt orange and black Chantilly lace). The colour palette resembles shades of an evening bomb fire in the fields, and the static hair and use of cornrows adds a contemporary element to what is another timeless collection from the lovely designers. Do not even get me started on the shoes..  2014-02-12 at 17-27-40 2014-02-12 at 17-26-37 2014-02-12 at 17-27-24 2014-02-12 at 17-26-02 2014-02-12 at 17-26-12 2014-02-12 at 17-27-20 2014-02-20 at 09-16-39 2014-02-12 at 17-26-07 2014-02-12 at 17-26-55 2014-02-12 at 17-25-58   2014-02-12 at 17-22-11 2014-02-12 at 17-22-34 2014-02-12 at 17-22-56 2014-02-12 at 17-23-25 2014-02-12 at 17-24-17 2014-02-12 at 17-24-54 2014-02-12 at 17-25-17 2014-02-12 at 17-26-14 2014-02-12 at 17-26-41 2014-02-12 at 17-27-35 2014-02-12 at 17-27-51 2014-02-12 at 17-28-08 2014-02-12 at 17-28-23 2014-02-12 at 17-28-58 2014-02-12 at 17-29-12 2014-02-12 at 18-54-28 2014-02-12 at 18-59-01 What’s New Pussycat

In The Jungle

2014-02-12 at 13-08-53 New York Fashion Week

I apologies for my absence from the blogosphere this past weekend, I seem to have fallen a tad behind. I promised “the good stuff” and i’m afraid it took a little longer to deliver than anticipated. Here I am sharing my NYFW with you, while others have already traveled to the London and Milan weeks and have documented in a timely and relevant manner. You see  the reason behind this, which I will use as my excuse is vey simple, I had to finish Downton Abbey….that and I ran a marathon, you know, the ushe. Back to the matter at hand. During our incredibly brief stint at NYFW we had the chance to go to the “tents” and shoot my #OOTD, turns out others were interested in what I was wearing as well. The last time strangers took this much interest in photographing me I was in China, which apparently when blonde, and not all that asian, is a common occurrence. Street style photography is probably my favourite thing to look through as fashion week season goes by, so to be unexpectedly worthy of documentation was pretty darn cool. Metaphorically speaking, to be considered one of the cheetahs during the course of this style safari in the concrete jungle, was kind of a highlight of our trip…and my life. 2014-02-12 at 14-37-13 2014-02-12 at 13-14-48 2014-02-12 at 13-09-26 2014-02-12 at 14-34-52 2014-02-12 at 11-26-05 2014-02-12 at 14-37-23 2014-02-12 at 13-02-16 2014-02-12 at 13-06-05 2014-02-12 at 13-17-06 2014-02-12 at 13-05-09 2014-02-12 at 14-40-39 2014-02-12 at 13-02-03 2014-02-12 at 14-35-15 2014-02-12 at 13-05-40 2014-02-12 at 14-47-42 2014-02-12 at 13-02-41 2014-02-12 at 14-40-26

Miami Vice

I  have been a couple Miami outfit posts behind before I get to my quick stint at fashion week, so i’m going to hash out all this lovely summer heat to get to the good winter storm stuff.  There’s something about rolled up sleeves on a blazer that just screams Sonny Crockett doesn’t it, then add that in a miami context and I’m officially stylin’ in 1984. All i’m missing is a cigarette boat, an african american counter part and I can officially solve crime. To be honest i’m more familiar with the shitty 2006 remake, which works for me because I much prefer being Colin Farrell than Don Johnson for very obvious reasons. Colin Farrell is a dime. What a tangent this turned into…anyways this is me wearing my father’s Clavin Klein jeans after I massacred them with a pair of scissors, and crossing a couple streets. Enjoy! _MG_4844 _MG_4888 _MG_4863 _MG_4869 _MG_4865 _MG_4873 _MG_4889 _MG_4870 _MG_4879 _MG_4866
