I Left My Brain in the Desert

Indio, California

Today is Tuesday and I am still recovering from Coachella. My brain power has yet to find its way back from wherever it is it went (Tequilatown), and I’m literally scratching my head trying to type something coherent. The rest of this is probably not going to be my best work. You’ve been warned.

We all know that people don’t go to festivals for the music anymore. They do so to get dressed in a free spirited manner, that isn’t free spirited at all because the entire ensemble is usually assembled 2+ months in advance. I digress, there’s a reason people invest so much time and money into looking free as can be. Because it is SO. MUCH. FUN. For millennials it’s pretty much Halloween, but a clown or witch costume would probably look saner.

All this being said day one of the festival was pretty tame for me. After being bombarded by the TOMMY x GIGI collaboration all over social media a couple months back I knew I had to pull a piece for the occasion. The entire collection should have been called “we want you to wear this to Coachella” because that literal message is the only more obvious way Tommy could have gotten his message across. Guess it worked because here we are folks. Wearing look 54 worn by Bella Hadid to the first day of Coachella. All kidding aside this is probably one of my favourite festival looks ever. I felt pretty and day one was fun. There was music and stuff. It was cool. Told you this wouldn’t be my best work…Day 2 of Coachella coming soon!

Get a Life

New York, New York

Sorry this one is a little bit late guys! Big things are coming, and they seem to have taken over. Also we bought a house, so… Venturing into adulthood seems to be pretty time consuming and stressful so don’t mind if I leave this little #OOTD post over here without a long rant about my current state of mind. This was probably one of my favourite looks I put together during fashion week, as it incapsulated so many pieces I loved that somehow worked together. It is also the coldest I had been all week, and though the pictures came out ok, I felt as though I was fighting the wind all the way up 57th street. Tears were streaming down my face and it wasn’t because I lost something I couldn’t replace…see what I did there. If you don’t, good, it means you have a better sense of humour than I, as well as life.

Get a life….man I miss that expression. So senseless, and rudimentary, yet so straightforward. If in dire need of a comeback (because that always happens) just use that one, honestly. I feel like the nostalgia of it alone will get you the upper hand regardless of what you were arguing in the first place. On the other hand, I’ve been so busy getting a life, that I forgot how cool it is not to have one. Spending all your time indoors watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer on Netflix and eating babka, sounds like nirvana right about now.  Anywhoo have a lovely weekend my little chickens, and don’t be in too big a rush to “get a life”. It’s seriously overrated.

I Wanna be a Cowboy Baby

_w7c0699 Austin, Texas

Happy Sunday funday my little chickens! Anyone else find that time is running away from us as 2017 approaches? This may be due to the fact that I’ve been all kinds of sick lately and therefore not leaving the house much, so my days are all kinda blending together. The lack of sleep and countless hours spent in the bacteria germ tubes often referred to as airplanes finally caught up to me I guess. In any case before I was all yucky and sick, I was traveling to Texas with my husband to rep for his company WERKS as sponsors for TejasTreffen in Houston. In case you were wondering WERKS is a lifestyle brand that revolves around vintage Porsches and racing, and is all kinds of awesome. Also a great place to buy man gifts for the holidays, but like actually though, it’s like Toys R Us for the entire gentleman race.

Before heading to Houston to work the WERKS booth, (see what I did there) we absolutely had to visit Austin as I had simply heard too many good things not to. It was all I hoped for and more. The BBQ, the vintage shopping, and the people, all contributed in giving us the Texan experience we’d always dreamt of having. Also I can go on record saying that South Congress is my favourite street I’ve ever had the pleasure of walking down on all of planet earth…come to think of it there are so many good streets in Austin! From watching Stand By Me on an outdoor big screen at Lucille’s on Rainey Street, to jamming to live music on Sixth, there were so many nighttime activities to choose from, beside my usual Netflix and just actually chilling. Austin, you’ve got all kinds of soul, and I dig you.

Before I sign off, I have to officially announce that there is a little something cool coming your way this week that  you best look out for. I’ve wanted to do this “thing” I’m referring to so illusively for a very long time, and am so thrilled to say it’s officially coming to fruition on ConscienceCoupable’s third birthday (which is December 13th, in case you didn’t mark it in your calendar for some strange reason). See you all on Tuesday with the big reveal!..a white triangle will mark the spot…

Open Festival Season

_W7C5630 Indio, California

The time has come my little chickens! Festival season is in full bloom and I’m here to bombard you with all of it’s wonder and magicalness. We had the lovely pleasure of attending Coachella once again this year, and it truly was a weekend to remember. From epic desert dusks to spotting every fairy featured supermodel I’ve ever dreamed of looking like, it was picturesque to say the least. Because the festival was in fact a three day long event, I will be sharing all three silly #OOTDs I pieced together for the eclectic occasion, and today marks numero uno.

Having knowingly rented a convertible for our time in California, I was partly thrilled and mortified to see my husband roll up in a banana yellow mustang to drive down to the desert. Several hours of sunburns, sandstorms and embarrassment later we finally arrived to the festival, and it was just like I remembered it, but overpopulated with famous people. Last year we attended the second weekend of Coachella, which I guess is less celebrity friendly, as this first weekend seemed to be some sort of convention for people that make me nervous. After spotting Aaron Paul, Daphne Groeneveld, and Zoe Kravitz during my first four minutes on the grounds, I became friendly with the margarita booth and my anxiety seem to subside rather quickly. Here’s the rule, don’t go up to them, and more importantly don’t later have FOMO for not going up to them. We lived by this all weekend long, and had a great time admiring these creatures in their natural habitat. Pretty sure Coachella is more LA than LA is.

I’m not sure if any of you know this, but I quite like food. In fact I booked this Coachella trip, while on day 6 of my 10 day Master Cleanse last year, simply to attend to a grilled cheese craving from one of the festival’s food trucks. When I bit into that sandwich, boy oh boy did I hear the hark angel sing. As for the music, well, we weren’t originally thrilled with the lineup this year, Guns’N’Roses excluded, but we discovered some new folks and danced to some known folks, that made us rethink our original apprehension. From girl grooving to Ellie Goulding, and having a total existential moment during M83, our first night was a Coachelluccess! Ya, let’s forget that “pun” happened. Highlight for me, aside from the grilled cheese, had to be the song I shared with you folks below…K, now go listen to it!
