The Crown

_w7c1306 London, England

I am not a resident of the USA, but I don’t think I need to be to share with you all that I have been pretty upset these past couple of days. The results, of what can only be described as a an ugly election ended in a way that left me dumbfounded. I am heartbroken for my gender, for every minority and group who has been severely wronged in the process, for our planet, but mostly because I thought people who share the opinions of the elected president were themselves a minority, and was apparently very wrong. Now, hate stemming from racism to homophobia to xenophobia to misogyny has been validated in a big way, and I fear we’ve already started to feel the consequences. I am tired of seeing nasty social media posts, not so funny memes, and anymore negativity coming from either side, therefore I swore I wouldn’t discuss this with you all today. Guess I couldn’t help myself. I just wanted all who feel as I do, to know that you are not alone. Our generation, the millennials, chose differently, and I find a bit of solace in that, as WE believe in progress and a brighter future for ourselves. Finally, to every woman out there, that cannot help but be heartbroken, due to what this represents for our sex, I am with you, and I feel your pain. I am with her, and I cannot help but think with conviction that if the her in question was a him, we wouldn’t be facing what we are today…

This brings me to what I actually wanted to talk to you about today. The longest-reigning British monarch, and female head of state in world history, who also happens to be my new fave strong female character on the telly, Queen Elizabeth II. Don’t mind the feminist segway as I tell you about what I’ve been binge watching obsessively, The Crown. I found it fitting to discuss my love and devotion for the television program, with this post from our time in London, but now that I’ve ranted about the election for a paragraph I feel I should try to keep it short. Queen Elizabeth is a badass, and has been since 52. Any woman that can raise a family, be a loving wife, and find time to do her job, stand up to Winston Churchill and rule a country on the weekends, is one I can look up to.  I realize the show is a relatively fictional work, but having a female ruler and this as early as 1558, is not fiction at all, and this notion bring me much pride and sorrow all at once. How can we in 2016, be so antiquated in our thinking? How am I back here again? Monarchy isn’t for everyone, but I tend to agree for what it stands for in this instance. The UK is one beautiful place. I know you can’t tell from the white houses we shot in front of, but it truly is, and not only aesthetically speaking. They’ve made their own set of  mistakes, but they have been getting it right for a long time, and for that I give them credit where it is due. All to say we had a lovely time visiting London, and cannot wait to return. I am proud to have, one strong lady on my dolla’ bills, and hope every nation feels a similar sense pride one day. God Save the Queen!…really, could I have ended this any other way?

Sweet April Showers?

_W7C2541 Montreal, Canada

I hate writing these weather post, but really right now? I feel I have no choice but to acknowledge the chilly elephant in the room and bitch about mother nature. After spending the majority of 2016 in Miami, I was looking forward to finally spending time in our hometown. Can’t say I’m too pleased. How can I describe the current temperature? Wet shit maybe? Seriously, its rainy, its snowy, its slushy…its just plain old yucky if you ask me. Can you believe tourism is a thing here? I mean yes its beautiful architecture and yada yada yada, but Montreal ain’t no exotic land. We have literally not taken a second since we stepped of that plane in our homeland of Canada, and mama needs some vitamin D to keep going. Thankfully with Coachella around the corner, we will be leaving the tundra for the desert of Palm Springs, and I can promise that this time I will not be complaining about the heat! We have so much exciting news and posts to share with you, from new city food guide, to amazing collaborations, and I cannot wait to take you kids along for the ride! Until then let us gather together and perform some kind of anti-rain dance. Springtime, we are very fuckign ready for you. _W7C2437 _W7C2566 _W7C2506 _W7C2456 _W7C2472 _W7C2514 _W7C2500 _W7C2438 _W7C2588 _W7C2570 Still unsure about this mismatched greens situation

I Don’t Pop Anything Cuz I’m Old

_W7C3387 Bal Harbour Shops, Florida

To celebrate Bal Harbour Shops’ 50th anniversary and The Miami Project’s 30th anniversary we had the great pleasure of attending Destination Fashion 2016 benefiting The Buoniconti Fund to Cure Paralysis. Approximately 12,500 new traumatic spinal cord injuries occur each year in the USA, from motor vehicle crashes, to acts in violence and this wonderful evening raised millions for paralysis research in one night alone! Fair to say we couldn’t have been more proud to be in attendance, and witness this incredible philanthropic achievement.

Not only was the event in support of a great cause, but it did so in BA-NA-NAS fashion. Treating more than 2000 of its friends and supporters to a star-studded extravaganza highlighted by a concert by my favourite Miami native Pitbull himself, and a fashion show for Brunello Cucinelli’s Spring 2016 Collection, it truly was a night to remember. We traveled through the progressive party that showcased the fashion trends, movies, television and entertainment through the Decades-60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s. Also, If you know my husband and I at all, you can imagine that the themed fair from cocktails at Studio 54, to Willy Wonka’s candy bar were kindof a hit with us.

Being a very special occasion I figured I would pull out a dress that I had been saving for  long enough it’s kinda considered vintage by now. This little Tom Ford number finally got a chance to go out, and though she was a little warm, she had a great time dancing her sequins off to Mr. Worldwide, if I do say so myself. All in all this night felt like a dream, and we had un unbelievable time celebrating a great cause. _W7C3342 _W7C3603 _W7C3513 _W7C3368 _W7C3546 _W7C3493 _W7C3408 _W7C3392 _W7C3553 _W7C3530 _W7C3327 _W7C3652 _W7C3311 _W7C3315 _W7C3664 _W7C3761 _W7C3672 _W7C3667 _W7C3668 IMG_7916 _W7C3317 _W7C3691 _W7C3673 _W7C3681 _W7C3693 _W7C3709 _W7C3713 _W7C3728 _W7C3715 _W7C3678 _W7C3735 _W7C3755 _W7C3769 _W7C3717 _W7C3785 _W7C3661 It went down, I might even have yelled timber…
