Driving Into Fall With Porsche

Laurentians, Quebec

There is nothing quite like a little weekend getaway is there? Especially in the midst of these uncertain times, getting out of town feels like that fresh breath of normalcy we all have been craving. Now the destination is great and all, but you know what they say about the journey…

This past weekend, Peter and I had the immense pleasure of partnering with Porsche, and getting behind the wheel of their brand new Porsche Cayenne S Coupé to take a little trip of our own with the help of their ROADS app. We decided to hit the open road in the morning and make our way up to the Laurentians for what would soon become one of our very best days behind the wheel to date. Now a road trip wouldn’t be a road trip without a few stops along the way. Food ones especially! We made sure to schedule a brief layover at what may be my favourite eatery of all time, Dic Ann’s, for one of their famous flattened burgers which we enjoyed in the covid safe environment, that was the rear end of the Cayenne Coupé. With its new sleek 911-like silhouette and adaptive rear spoiler fully deployed, our road picnic was complete.

We continued to make our way north to soak in the fall colours that had already appeared throughout the Laurentian Mountains, and took the time to “stop and smell the flowers” so to speak. Then it was time to take Peter’s favourite country road through Morin-Heights, and see how our new daily driver handled those tight corners. Safe to say we were impressed. My petrolhead husband, and I quote, “couldn’t believe the precision of the new generation transmission, always ready and thinking ahead of the drive, the power delivery to the ground is unprecedented”. I, on the other hand, wasn't the least bit surprised as I had already indulged in the Coupé’s sports package on the highway while developing a particular fondness for its ”Sport Response Button”. This feature unique to the newest generation of Porsche models made me feel like a Mario Kart character after acquiring a Star. Basically for the 20 seconds following the moment I pressed that little black button I became what felt like an invincible driving god behind the world’s most powerful set of wheels. To feel that level of exhilaration driving an SUV, was not something I anticipated. Porsche really nailed the “sports” in the Sports Utility Vehicle acronym on this one.

After an hour on the backroads and a little off-road detour, we had finally reached our destination in Mont-Tremblant, and though I was excited for the romantic meal we were about to have at the Quintessence Resort, I was a little sad to leave our road companion parked outside for the evening. From her buttery hand crafted leather seats, to panoramic sunroof, I couldn’t wait until the next morning when I would get the chance to get back behind the wheel, turn up our playlist on that legendary Bose sound system, and leave thoughts of a destination behind. I also realized how much Peter’s love of motoring had truly rubbed off on me in our 10+ years together.

The Roads by Porsche app was a great source of inspiration for our getaway so we made sure to add our trip details, including a few extra recommendations, if any of you wanted to recreate our little journey for your next adventure. I had to bid adieu to the Cayenne S Coupé yesterday, and must admit I miss her quite a bit already, but am so grateful to the Porsche team for giving us the chance to get behind the wheel of this stylish, high performance sports car masquerading as an SUV.
